Who We Are

Nicholas van Santen

Principal Consultant

Nicholas brings more that 20 years of international experience in designing, developing and executing communications and marketing campaigns around the world. He possesses extensive, on-the-ground experience having worked during his career across Japan, the wider Asia-Pacific region, Africa, Europe, South America and the Middle East. Specialising in B2B, energy, extractives, heavy industry, manufacturing and civil infrastructure, as well as sport and major events, Nicholas’ wide geographic and industry experience gives him a unique perspective on communications to diverse, global audiences.

Beginning his career in Amsterdam, at the European Headquarters of Canon, the leading Japanese digital imaging technology provider, Nicholas worked extensively across Europe, Africa and the Middle East promoting Canon’s office automation and professional print business. In 2008 he relocated to Dubai to lead Canon’s B2B marketing & communication function across the Middle East and North Africa. In 2010, he joined Aggreko plc, the world’s leading provider of mobile electricity generation, with operations in more than 100 countries. Nicholas worked in a variety of communications leadership roles, based initially in Dubai and then London. As a lifelong rugby enthusiast, in 2018 he moved to Japan to take up his dream job as the Head of International Communications for Rugby World Cup 2019.

At the conclusion of Rugby World Cup, Nicholas set up Montciel Communications in Tokyo. The philosophy of Montciel is simple: To bring the best of the world to Japan, while bringing the best of Japan to the world.
